We stopped by Native Foods after seeing Chef Tanya at the Healthy Living Expo in Burbank. Tanya greeted us personally, explained the menu and signed a copy of her cookbook for us as well. The food was terrific. It spans the vegan spectrum of unhealthy, but rich - like the chicken - to healthy and hearty like the soups.
The decore is quirky and cramped. They are doing a lot with a little bit of space.
Prices were a bit high, but the value was good.

Great food.... they save the chicken wings with ranch dressing and the chicken run ranch burger are freakin fantastic.... seriously like crack, addictive as hell.
To tell the truth, I don't think the other things they make are all that great, pretty mediocre, and some of the bowls are way bland....
But seriously, they could have a store with just the two fried "chicken" and ranch dressing items and I'd be stoked.
Oh and they need to remove the refined sugar from some the desserts so I can eat them. Bastards.

Vegan ranch dressing!
This place is awesome! Parking is tough, though.

the classic - can't be beaten. though this restaurant may not be the most elegant (you order at the front and take a number to a table), it is just perfect the way it is. The food is reasonably priced and everything is just so good. I have yet to try something there I didn't at least like a lot, while most of their menu i love. and also, for dessert, the key lime parfait or the peanut butter parfait.
recommended for main course: chicken run ranch burger; bbq pizza

Pros: great food, organic, all vegan, non-styrofoam takeout boxes
Cons: some items smeem like a small amount of food for the price, parking, limited seating, seems cramped, they don't really wait on you
Overall: still a must-try, especially good if you're trying to convince omnivores that vegan food can be good
Recommended: Greek Pizza

5 stars for this LA legend! visited in 2000 on vacation and was blown away. I continue to enjoy it now that i live a lot closer. Sandwiches and salads are great, save room for cheesecake because its soooo goood.
The menu is pretty diverse with something for everyone, service is always exceptional from friendly & professional staff.
I <3 Native Foods!

I can always eat at Native Foods. Other places I'll get burned out on but not NF. If you haven't been to the costa mesa location its really cool and its in a shopping center with a yoga place, bike shop, scuba shop with pool and there are two outdoor fire places (one on a roof). Also everyone needs to complain that the jerk bowl is off the menu.

"Einstein was a vegetarian, think about it..."
Incredible, all vegan, all organic. As far as I know all ingredients (soy "meat," seitan, tempeh, etc.) are made there. Great selection of salads, sandwiches, hot bowls, even pizza and cheesecake. Their native cheese is nut based, and it's exquisitely good. Recommend the Soy Philly Peppersteak, Hibiscus ice tea, chili cheese fries, and the Mad Cowboy bowl. Mmmmm...
If you've got a tough anti-veggie friend, this is the place to take him or her. They will be broken.
Most dishes are $8-10 but well worth it. Only minus is there is hardly ever parking (Westwood sucks!!). Free 2-hour parking on weekdays before 5:30pm, at the southeast corner of Broxton and Weyburn. menu and recipe book at www.nativefoods.com.
