This place just gets worse every time I go there. The staff is patently unfriendly, the quality of food is surprisingly low, the place is covered in grime everywhere, it's loud and you typically spend an inordinate amount of time either waiting to be seated, to have your order taken or to recieve standard service of any kind. And yet the place is regularly packed, which I can only attribute to the fairly low prices and good-sized portions (not to mention numerous veg. options). It really can't be the food, which is mediocre at best. They seem to put no care into preparaton or using quality ingredients. I feel like they manage to get by with the bare minimum, and since they are still popular they are able to operate on this level without losing business. I've had occasion to eat at Pokez numerous times over the years, and I've really noticed a downward trend from fair to worse over time, which is too bad for a place that would normally hold such promise.

Their portions are huge and delicious! They bring it out fresh and hot so becareful. Every order comes with a complimentary chip and salsa, even the to go ones. The restaurant is very casual so approach the employee if you need anything, they're really cool so don't feel intimidated.

I had some gigantic deep-fried potato burrito thing and it was awesome. The chips are good, and the salsa is tasty too. Also, the guac is delicious.

I recently went to this restaurant and I really liked the food, I had the potato faluatas. It was cheap and it was a huge plate. The wait was pretty long, but the restaurant was pretty full and there were only two servers. I will definitly go again, just maybe not at the peak times.

Love the Poke'z!! Yummy, cheap and lot's of vegan options, Potato tacos, Tofu Enchiladas, vegan chorizo burrito,,,,The menu is clear about what is or can be vegan but make sure to specify, they are used to it and great about it.
Very urban and funky not a place to impress the in-laws, good place for a blind date. Gets busy so there is sometimes a wait at peak times. If there's a ball game down town parking is rough. That's the only down side.

Pokez is my favorite place to eat in San Diego. It’s the combination of cheap food, and the amount you get for the price, but not only that, it taste great. They do have a good amount of vegetarian meals but I’d like to see more vegan options such as sour cream and cheese and more mock meats. The staff is also very friendly. But if your the type that only finds yourself at home in fancy neighborhoods like hillcrest and La Jolla, Pokez may not be for you.

4 stars for the combination of cheap & tasty vegan food.
more vegan add/ons and options and less meat on the menu would push this joint to 5 stars, in the meantime it can't be beat for mexican food in san diego. highly recommended!

Pokez is an institution and my favorite place to eat in the world. The atmosphere is like no other, you never know what to expect from the staff, and you're bound to run into someone you know. The menu is extensive, the salsa is out of this world, and you might even be treated to an HK performance.
