WARNING: The vegan moose cake is not vegan, they drizzel it with a caramel sauce that contains dairy, but they do not inform customers about it.

"Jyoti-Bihanga is a vegetarian Restaurant owned and opperated by students of spiritual master Sri Chinmoy." This all vegetarian restaurant is a little out of the ordinary in atmosphere, but fear not! The menu caters to a wide variety of tastes, most akin to diner-style or american comfort food. Vegan favorites include the BBQ duck sandwitch with mashed potatoes and gravy, and the legendary all you can eat buffet which is mostly vegan.

I just wanted to let everyone know who has eaten or eats at Jyoti Bihanga, that their mashed potatoes and gravy are not vegan. I have been eating there for a long time and everytime that I have gone to the restaurant they have re assured me that the side dishes that come along with the vegan meals are infact vegan. Yesterday I went to eat lunch with my husband and he asked them again if they were vegan and we had a rude waitress inform us that the mashed potatoes and gravy were never vegan to begin with, and that they used butter in the process. I tried to explain to her that there is vegan butter but she firmly told me that it was butter made from animal products, and was quite rude about it. She constantly tried to change the subject and was very sarcastic. Any way, I am going to call and ask to speak to whoever is in charge, but in the meanwhile I wanted to let everyone know just to watch out because they seem really wishy-washy with their ingredients.

In case anyone was wondering about the bread there. It is vegan!  I went in there to ask about it and they gave me the information for the company they buy bread from. They custom order from Charlies Best Bread in PB. Charlie says that he makes a custom vegan bread for them. The labels he gives with this bread have inaccurate ingredients that state that there is honey. This is actually the case. If you want to double check, don't just go by what the label says on the bread they get. Call the company itself and ask about the bread he makes for them.

Great food!!! Their turkey avocado wrap, zen sandwich, and neatloaf sandwich is a must-try. Their specials are usually really good too. Vegan items are specially marked and if you're lacto-vegetarian, you can pretty much eat everything...make sure you ask what has eggs in it (usually it's the mayo-tamari spread).

You better go with an empty stomach because you will be rolling outta there when your done.

The neatloaf is great, sandwiches are great. I have had some of the vegan soups and they were pretty tasty-you do have to ask them which ones are vegan. They have a board up by the register that has the daily 'specials' and most of the dishes have been tasty.

The only complaint I have of this place is the salad-too many beets.

It is reasonably priced for the food that you get. The atmosphere is very calming and the staff are very nice.

This place is mostly good. I like their meatloaf and their smooties and salads are always good.

Yuk! I just don't get the attraction to this place. I've been twice - once for the breakfast buffet and another time for lunch. I had the BBQ Duck Sandwich and it was disgusting. The bread became mush and fell apart right away. I could barely finish it. The one thing that was good was the mash potatoes and gravy and the orange juice. But how can you mess up orange juice?

Jyoti's has great soups, many are vegan (try the beet&Coconut mmm) they will let you sample them first too. The vegan neatloaf with mashed potatoes is good, the PLB burger (peace/love/bliss) and yes, the BBQ mock duck sandwhich, sometimes the servers seem like they'd rather be meditating.. but the atmosphere is relaxing, the place is clean and the quality consistant, plus it's located between The Ould Sod Pub and Lestats Coffee house, both great places to see live music. NOTE: Joyti's closes early Wednesday's and once or twice a year they close to go on retreat so I always call to make sure they're open.

There are only a few vegan items on the menu, the one that seems to be the one everyone always gets is the bbq duck sandwitch with mashed potatoes and gravy. make sure to get a piece of choc mousecake, or peanut butter pie, both amazing.

they also have an all you can eat buffet, that is about 80% vegan 3 sundays a month (check their website). it is affordable and tasty, not superb, but definitely worth checking out every now and then.

I can't post a full honest review on Jyoti's being that i'm so in love with the barbecue duck, that's all i ever get.
They always have vegan options for soups and desert so bring an appetite. But one of my favorite things about Jyoti Bihanga is the all you can eat brunch.
